The Mountain
A film on mountain-climbing in Grand Teton National Park, Wyo. Glenn Exum, Virginia Garner, and Paul Petzoldt demonstrate mountaineering techniques and equipment. They reach the peak, shake hands, and rappel and glissade to base of mountain.
Handshake
In this animated film, an innocent greeting between two people is quickly transformed into a tangled struggle, illustrating the twists and turns of a love affair. Relationships are visceral attachments, often leading to one dominating and consuming the other, then moving on easily and heartlessly. This film is autobiographical, a visual metaphor of an experience I had in my youth with one of my first girlfriends, perhaps the first love of my life. We learn a lot from experiences like this.
Sebastopol
A mountain guide and a young woman make an ascent to Mount Sebastopol in New Zealand's Southern Alps. The couple leave from Mount Cook's Hermitage Hotel and after following an easy path by foot, they rock climb a sheer rock face. After reaching the top of the rock pinnacle, they follow by snowy terrain up to the top of Sebastopol, completing a precarious passage across the steep snowfield. The film is part of a series of films produced at the end of the twenties by the New Zealand Government Publicity Office to promote the beauty and attractions of the country.
