Today's Durango & Silverton
Overview:
Explore a living piece of the American West deep in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad traverses forty-five miles of the most rugged and beautiful country in North America. It attracts hundreds of thousands of riders annually and has often served as a Hollywood movie set. This program begins with a tour of the roundhouse, shops, and turntable as classic D&RGW steam locomotives are readied for their runs. Enjoy a front-row seat to this incredible scenic line from the cab of a former White Pass and Yukon diesel. Ride with the crew on an Alco K-28 steam engine and watch these cherished "sport models" participate in fall and winter photo excursions. As a bonus, we have included rare footage of the D&SNG hauling logs for a wintertime fire mitigation project with the Colorado State Forest Service. This is your ticket to explore a true American treasure!
